Green Winter! Heated Mattress Covers/Blankets
January 2, 2009 by Greener Buyer
Hey everyone,
Here’s a great product to fight the winter blues. Sunbeam has created heated mattress covers/ throw blankets and blankets. These plug into a nearby outlet by your bed to keep you warm and toasty all night long. Now I bet your wondering how is this green? This is because while it does use electricity the point is you can turn down your thermostat in your house, which uses a lot more energy, saving you money on your energy bill, and reducing your energy consumption. They’re a variety of sizes for beds and a variety of colors for the blankets. Features include, auto shutoff, dual control on larger mattress covers, and multi-heat level settings. Thaw yourself, and freeze those energy bills!

Why is it green?
- Lower your heating bills/consumption

Its funny how little changes like this can make a huge impact on your electricity bill. If you use a fan instead of running the air conditioning when it is really hot you will save tons. This is true when it’s cold too. If you use a heat lamp to heat a small area instead of running the heater and heating the whole house, you are also saving money. Even though heat lamps aren’t classically thought of as being perfectly eco-friendly, they are a step in the right direction and that’s what matters.
These little things ultimately make all the difference. Keep the posts coming!
We love our heated mattress pads, and have them on all our beds. We do turn down the furnace to 62 at night because of it.
we dont have winter but those seem warm
Cool Idea. I dont think I would need those in Florida but you never know it has been quite chilly here the past couple of weeks. Thanks for sharing.
I agree that using a heated mattress pad saves energy when one turns down the thermostat and I loved my heated mattress pads! (I’ve had a few of them).
However, I’d like to suggest that a really good silk duvet will keep you just as warm and requires no electricity.
Just my 2 cents.
